JOÃO CANIJO
 

Born in 1957, João Canijo is one of the most important directors of his generation. From 1980 to 1985 he worked as assistant director to Manoel de Oliveira, Wim Wenders, Alain Tanner and Werner Schroeter, among others.
In 1988, his first film was selected for the Rotterdam Film Festival. Since then, his films have been acclaimed both by critics and audiences, and his two most recent films were selected for the Cannes Film Festival, where they were shown in the Un Certain Regard category.
João Canijo has also worked as a director for the stage, in productions of plays by David Mamet and Eugene O'Neill.
